Bob Brown Foundation Fundraiser 2024

from $8.50
sold out

ABOUT THE EVENT:

Join us on the Friday, February 9th for a three-in-one experience, transforming the Yackandandah Public Hall into a cinema, bar, and restaurant as part of a special fundraiser for the Bob Brown Foundation. We (me, Katrina Dunnett de Jong and VO friend Prudence Rothwell) are hosting this as part of our fundraising efforts for a running event we are taking part in to raise funds and support the campaign to have the takayna / Tarkine protected as a World Heritage-listed National Park and returned to Aboriginal ownership.

As part of this event, you will be able to enjoy a plate of Indonesian food accompanied by a drink from our bar. The venue will provide an ambient atmosphere, complete with tables and chairs for you to mingle and then settle into for the screening. Local wines, craft beers, and soft drinks will be available for purchase throughout the evening, as well as snack food separate from the dinner plates.

Strictly no BYO food or drinks.

5 PM: Doors will open for food and drinks. We encourage you to arrive as early as you can as seating is on a first-come, first-served basis, so early attendees will have the first pick of seats (and the most time to have a great evening!).

6:45 PM: Acknowledgement of Country, followed by a brief discussion led by us (the runners and hosts) to gain insights into the event, the cause it supports, and the film we are about to screen.

7 PM: The screening of 'The Giants' commences.

ABOUT THE FILM:

ClIck here to watch the traIler.

'The Giants' is a film that explores the intertwined fates of trees and humans in a poetic portrait of environmentalist Bob Bown and the forest. From a seedling to forest elder, the film is a masterclass that draws on Bob’s 50 years of inspiring activism, from the Franklin campaign for Tasmania’s last wild river, to today’s battle for the Tarkine rainforest. Told in Bob’s own words, his story is interwoven with the extraordinary life cycle of Australia’s giant trees, brought to the screen with stunning cinematography and immersive animated forest landscapes.
